We are not really the romantic/mushy types around here, so the last couple of years our Valentine’s Day tradition has been family movie night with heart pizza and sweet treats!
The boys get a new movie as part of their Valentine’s Day gift, and we drag the ENORMOUS bean bag my husband bought (without my knowledge) downstairs. I will have to share a pic of this thing soon, but all 4 of us, including my hubby who is over six foot tall, can fit on it! It arrived for Christmas last year in a box that was pretty big, but upon opening it the instructions said it would take up to 7 days to stretch out to it’s full size….I cannot even get it up and down the stairs by myself! My hubby joked that he was sure 3 out of 4 family members would love it….everyone but me! Haha!
So needless to say, bringing it downstairs for movie night is an event in itself! Add in some pizza making and a few sweet treats for dessert, and we are making memories people!!
This is a super easy method for making pizza, and your kids will love having ownership in the process. We are pretty basic in the pizza ingredient department, but mix it up and add whatever your family likes…..peppers, mushrooms, olives, pineapple, chicken…the sky is the limit!
And here’s how to make it super festive for Valentine’s Day….ready for it…
Buy a heart shaped cookie cutter…ground breaking, I know!! I bought this little set of hearts so that I can make all sorts of Valentine’s fun for my kids. The largest one was used for these pizzas! This is for moms that like Pinterest-y type stuff, but ain’t got time for that! Cut any food into a heart, and BOOM! You are an instant “fun mom.” So here we go…
Ingredients:
Pizza crust- I bought this frozen dough here.
Flour for dusting your work surface
Cheese
Pepperoni or whatever toppings your family enjoys
Directions:
If frozen, let dough sit out for 30 minutes to reach room temperature before using. Sprinkle your counter or cutting board with flour and spread dough on top.
Use your cookie cutter to cut hearts out of the dough. I was able to get 5 mini pizzas out of ours.
Follow package instructions, but our dough called for baking about 8 minutes before adding toppings.
Top each pizza with about a tablespoon of sauce and add toppings of your choice. We did mozzarella, cheddar, pepperoni and fresh basil.
Place on a baking sheet or pizza stone and bake according to dough package instructions. Ours called for an additional 6-10 minutes.
Allow pizza to cool and enjoy!
Some years we have also just cut the dough into one big heart pizza instead of individuals, and that was also fun!
