Guest Bedroom Reveal with Joss and Main

December 11, 2018

Today I am SO excited to share our finished guest bedroom, made possible by Joss and Main!   If you remember this post, I shared my plans for this room and this design board.

It was such an exciting process to take these ideas and make them a reality!

A Little Back Story…

If you have been here awhile, you know that around this time last year my family took the plunge to start our journey to adoption.  It wasn’t something we sought out, it came to us through a series of events.  You can read that whole story here.  Sadly, that did not work out.  You can read the details here, but we are still healing from the confusion and hurt and will be dealing with the legal aftermath for months to come.  The room I am talking about today was our nursery.  We had set it up with a crib, dresser that doubled as a changing table, rocking chair, and I was working on a boho ballerina themed room for our little girl.  When we got the devastating news, we kind of just shut the door to this room for awhile.  We didn’t need a visual reminder.

While my hubby and I are not shutting the door to expanding our family, we did decide that with my mom staying with me during my recovery from knee surgery and his parents coming for the holidays, it was silly to kick our son out of his bedroom for them when we have a perfectly good room that can be used!  We decided it was time to convert that room back to a guest room.  After all, if we need it for another baby someday, I am always up for a design project!

A Fresh Start

We have been in our home for ten years and typically I redo spaces little bits at a time.  I was excited and overwhelmed to have a totally blank slate with this room….enter Joss and Main!  Their site is basically a one stop shop, and I found so many pieces I loved for this project!

It was therapeutic for me to transform this room from a painful reminder to a pretty space, and I was so very grateful!

I feel like there should be a drumroll……

Such a huge transformation took place in this room, and in my heart, throughout this process!!

The Bed

I loved this wood panel bed!  It is solid wood and sturdy, but very affordable.  There are several finishes available, but I decided to go with this driftwood.   It has a modern rustic vibe that I love!

I also snagged the coordinating nightstand.

I kept the bedding pretty simple, allowing the wallpaper to really be the star.  Layering textures helped give a cozy vibe, along with details like pom poms and tassels on the pillows and throw.

Wallpaper

I LOVE this cheerful pattern, and the bold statement it makes on the wall behind the bed!  It came in six color options, but I loved the calm of this blue. This was my first time using wallpaper in our home, and there was definitely a little learning curve!  I forgot to account for the extra square footage needed to match the pattern and ran short.  Thankfully Joss and Main had another roll in the same batch….crises averted!  We also gave the other three walls a fresh coat of paint using Sherwin Williams Alabaster.  It is a pretty warm white that paired well with the wallpaper.

It just makes me smile and also makes me want to add wallpaper to more rooms in my home!

Special Touches for Our Guests

It was important to me that guests feel comfortable to “come as you are”!  This large coat rack is up for them to hang clothes, towels or purses.  Two fluffy robes also hang for their use, and I grabbed a large basket for laundry.

My mother-in-law always has one of these luggage racks for us when we visit, and they are SO handy!  This folds up in the closet and can be pulled out for guests to easily access their suitcases.  I like that this one also has a shelf at the bottom for an extra bag or shoes.

This mid-century modern dresser was purchased for the nursery, but I think it works in this room too!  I kept it simple and the drawers empty so that guests can really use it to make themselves feel at home!

It’s funny how spaces can sometimes hold so much emotion.  When I walk into this room, I smile now, and I am thankful for the family and friends who will stay here.  I know God has a plan for our family and our hearts are open to wherever He leads!

Thank you for checking out our guest bedroom! I am incredibly thankful to Joss and Main for this opportunity!
