Sweet Summertime! We are back from a fun family vacation, and I am super excited to be joining some incredibly talented ladies today for a summer home tour! Each of us will be sharing on our individual blogs how we style our homes for summer in hopes to inspire you to find your own easy summer style. My sweet friend Kelly at The Tattered Pew put this tour together, and I am constantly in awe of her talent, beautiful style, and positivity!
Welcome! Come on in! Let me grab you an iced coffee, a glass of peach tea or a lemonade! I’m Bethany, and my family lives in Texas, where the temps near 100 degrees daily this time of year!
Our home was built nearly twenty years ago, and we have lived here almost nine. Over the years we have slowly transformed so many spaces, including this entry that used to have orangey laminate wood flooring, an orange wood banister that almost matched the floor (but not quite!) and white wood balusters. Our home is a constant work in progress, just like us, but we have enjoyed the journey!
If you are visiting for the first time, just know that I am a mama to two boys, 4 and 2, and while I would love to tell you my house is always clean and put together….it’s not. We live here and well, we can be messy!
These pillows double as the perfect fort for superheroes and this coffee table makes a fun space for building Lego creations and works of art. Leather couches have been great for life with toddlers! I usually buy a new pillow cover or two each season for our down inserts. This is an easy, inexpensive way to change up a space! I want my people to feel cozy, loved and free to be themselves in our home! Nothing too fancy over here!
Generally speaking I love mixing neutrals, white and wood with small pops of color. Back in the spring I started decorating with lemons, and they have been a staple for me for months! Bright and happy! I talked more about my love for lemons here. Our mantle gets a styling makeover every few months, and I added pops of yellow and greenery for summer.
I also added a bright cobalt blue in the mix! This tray is my favorite to decorate each season.
You can find this tray here.
These shelves sit opposite our couch and are also sprinkled with pops of yellow and green. The lemon beads and scale are my favorite! I bought this large sign hanging on the wall for our playroom initially, but I just love it so much it found it’s home here. This is the message I want to instill in my boys as they greet each day, and quite frankly, I need the reminder sometimes too! God made you YOU for a purpose, and if no one has told you today, you’re AMESOME just as you are!
My dining room has been getting a little makeover the last few months….slowly…and it’s still not done, but I did restyle it a bit to share. This space has been sprinkled with lemons since February, so I decided to mix it up a bit with white, soft blues and…wait for it….peaches! I mean, basically my summer tips are to just go to the produce department of your grocery store and see what inspires you! Haha!
A couple of my girlfriends and I took our boys to a peach orchard a few weeks ago, and I’ve had peaches on the brain ever since! We ate the BEST peach bbq…I’ll be sharing my re-creation recipe soon…ate peach ice cream and had the best day! This dough bowl is filled with faux flowers from Pier 1, fresh peaches and mini terra cotta pots from Hobby Lobby.
I have used these wooden chargers on repeat!
The blue scalloped plate and peach printed napkin provide a fun pop of color against the white.
I recently painted this hutch from it’s original mahogany finish, and it was just the facelift it needed to brighten up this room!
On the opposite wall sits this console table.
I painted these windows with a little brighter hue! I often add a wreath or sign to the middle window, but I decided to just keep it simple for summer!
This tray is another favorite! The peach glass containers are soy candles in a honey tobacco leaf scent (sounds strange, but smells delicious!) and the bowls and mugs are part of the same set as the blue scalloped plates on the table. All sources are listed at the bottom of the post!
This light weight table runner is fun for summer, and I love the little fluffy poms!
There are still some projects left to do in this room, and it’s rarely all set like this, but it sure was fun to put together!
Plus, under the table seems to make the BEST hiding spot….stinker!
As a former teacher I have always looked at summer as a time to regroup, recharge, play and make memories with my people! I hope this summer will be just that for you and your family!
