We added Lincoln to our family back in January, and it’s safe to say, he fits into the Crisp Crew perfectly!
He eats, he passes gas, he sleeps….just like the other smelly boys I live with!
Lincoln, a large (29 lbs!) male Boston Terrier, originally lived with an elderly woman and his sister. All their basic needs were met, but the woman just could not run and play with him the way she wanted, so she decided to put him and his sister up for adoption. His sister was adopted first before we were contacted by the organization. I was worried he might be sad being an only dog, but he has LOVED all the attention.
A friend mentioned to me the 3/3/3 rule when Lincoln first came home with us. The 3/3/3 stands for 3 days, 3 weeks and 3 months and refers to how dogs slowly get more comfortable with their new owners and surroundings and their true personalities shine through. Lincoln was a bit shy and tentative in the first 3 days. He shook most of the car ride home. I don’t think he had ever lived in a house with stairs, and he was scared to try them. He came to us crate trained and potty trained (Hallelujah!!), and thankfully that part of the transition was pretty easy. His crate was his safe place at first. His foster mom also gave us some of his blankets from his original home and I think that helped.
In the 3 week time period he got more comfortable, taught himself how to go up and down stairs and had a few accidents in the house. I think he was pushing the limits a little, and also had not fully learned to communicate with us when he needed to go. He started to cuddle with us more and greeted the boys each day with a “lick attack” when they got home from school. Boston terriers LOVE to lick! It is not my favorite, but Will especially giggles every time!

After the 3 month period, he is completely himself, very loving and playful with the boys, as well as protective of us all. He now sleeps with the boys at night, and we have let him have free range within some spaces of the house when we are gone with no issues. He is a great car rider and loved going with me to drop off and pick the boys up from school each day! He is a constant companion and the BEST snuggler! He especially loves Adam, who was the most reluctant to get a dog in the first place….isn’t that how it usually goes?! Adam has primarily worked from home the last few months, and you can find Lincoln in his bed snuggled at Adam’s feet most hours of the day.
I don’t think he was exposed to many people or dogs as a puppy (he is almost 2 years old). While he is typically sweet with kids, he is often leery of new people, especially men, and he is not friendly with other dogs. We are getting training for him this summer where he will go away to “camp” and learn these basic social skills. I hope that it will help him to feel at ease around other dogs and not feel the need to go into protection mode immediately.
It has rained a TON in Texas the last few weeks. Adam found this Mudbuster that gently cleans his paws when he comes in from outside, and it has been awesome!

We grabbed all the supplies we needed for Lincoln at Target! I especially loved the adorable bandanas he’s wearing above. This watermelon one is reversible-it’s a pineapple on the other side- and it’s cooling! He’ll be sporting these all summer! I also grabbed a couple of the collapsible water bowls in fun colors for walks on hot days!

I don’t think I realized just how much love Lincoln would bring to our family. He is a constant source of joy for our crew, and we are so thankful he’s ours!
