My boys have been obsessed with using our ice cream maker this summer to make this sorbet! They love the whole process…
although I think Will mainly likes the eating part! Spreading his legs so the drips don’t fall on him. When it’s 100 degrees outside, you gotta eat fast…..Texas probs!
My hubby has also been trying to avoid dairy for some health reasons, which has led us to making sorbet….not mad about it! It is light and refreshing and this recipe is SUPER simple…just three ingredients!
Three Ingredients:
1 1/4 cup of sugar
1 1/4 cup of water
2 cups fruit juice of your choice – see notes under each flavor below!
Directions:
Heat sugar and water on the stove stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
Take off the heat and let sit for five minutes.
Stir in the fruit juice and place mixture in the fridge for a minimum of an hour.
Once cooled, add to your ice cream maker.
Serve immediately or place in the freezer to harden up!
We have made three flavors so far, but you could absolutely use this same method for any flavor you want!
Lemon Sorbet
This one basically tastes like a lemon chill you would buy at a baseball game or amusement park! So refreshing! For your two cups of fruit juice, you could squeeze fresh lemons or just use pre-made lemonade. The lemonade will most likely be sweeter as it will probably have additional sugar mixed in, while the fresh lemons may be more tart!
Grapefruit Sorbet
This was the aftermath of a blog hop tablescape where I used tons of grapefruit for decoration! I squeezed my grapefruit juice fresh because I had it, but again you could use pre-made grapefruit juice like Ruby Red. Just note, it will be sweeter if the store bought juice also has sugar.
Pineapple Sorbet
This made me want to be on a beach somewhere! I used store bought pineapple juice for this, but you could absolutely blend fresh pineapple and strain it for fresh pineapple juice!
I plan to make so many more flavors before the summer is over! We have also loved these glass ice cream cones that come in white and tan. They are from the Target Dollar Spot and are actually just $1. They say hand wash only, but I’ve put them in the dishwasher and they are just fine….what can I say? I like to live on the edge! Haha!
You can find our ice cream maker here. It is SO easy to use, affordable and makes about a quart at a time, which is just perfect for trying lots of different flavors! We also have this one that is a little more advanced and makes larger batches if that’s more your speed!
I hope this sorbet finds it’s way into your summer rotation as you find ways to beat the heat!
