Summer, aka swimsuit season, will be here before we know it! Excuse me, while I pause to take another bite of cookie…
But really, this is about the time of year I start to think (panic) about donning a suit and chasing my boys around the pool! While I have no aspirations of rocking the rather tiny bikinis of my youth, I would like to be able to head to the beach, the lake and the pool without embarrassment!
So in an effort to get some more nutrition in my diet, as well as my boys’, we whipped together this green smoothie….that actually tastes good! I know some kids might shy away from the green, but I told my boys it was a “Hulk drink” that would make them big and strong, and that did the trick! Fun straws always help too!
This is great for breakfast or an afternoon pick-me-up, and you can also easily add any supplements you want to it depending on your goals. I often add this protein powder and this collagen powder.
Ingredients:
You can easily mix these ingredients up, but here is what I used, and a little run down of the benefits of each!
1 cup spinach- virtually tasteless but rick in vitamins and minerals, regulates blood pressure, boosts immune system, maintains healthy brain, protects digestion, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant rich, protects skin, anti-cancer….just to name a few!
1 cup frozen pineapple – adds sweetness, improves oral and eye health, boosts immune system, anti-inflammatory, reduces risk of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and cancer
1 banana, cut into pieces – loaded with potassium, boosts energy and mood, improves digestion, boosts eye and bone health
1/2 cucumber, peeled – lowers blood pressure, aids in digestion, brighter complexion, fights cancer, promotes joint health
1/4 cup of flax seed – high in omega 3’s, fires up metabolism, full of antioxidants, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol
The juice from half a lemon
1 cup water
1 cup ice
1 scoop protein powder – helps you build and maintain muscle
1 scoop collagen – bone and joint health, hair, skin and nails- I also sometimes just add this to my morning coffee! It is flavorless!
Directions:
Add all ingredients to a blender and blend to desired consistency!
This recipe yields 2-3 smoothies!
Cheers to healthier choices and less sag in your swimsuit!
